The system keeps pace with the operation: new features enter through a roadmap, with an owner, a maintenance budget and documentation. No orphaned systems.

It costs more than a subscription in year one
Off-the-shelf software spreads its cost across thousands of customers; custom concentrates the investment on what serves only you. The return comes from the differentiator, not from saving on licenses.
Where the process is commodity, buy off the shelf
Payroll, accounting, email: a boxed product solves it better and cheaper. Custom is for the rule that makes the company win, not for what everyone does the same way.
Scope is a decision, not a wish list
Every feature carries a maintenance cost forever. The first version is born lean on purpose, and saying no to a screen request is part of the job.

- Wouldn't an off-the-shelf system be better?
- Often, yes. Where the process does not differentiate the company, buying ready-made is our recommendation, and that ends the conversation without a proposal. Custom comes in when the rule that produces results does not fit a boxed product.
- How long until the first version?
- It depends on the scope the diagnostic measures, but the phased design exists to shorten it: the first version delivers the most critical flow. At UniTrust, it went live in two weeks.
- Who maintains the system after delivery?
- Whoever you decide. The code and the architecture are yours, documented. Yowpi stays on for the evolution of most systems it builds, and UniTrust has been a continuous partnership since 2022, but your team can take over.
