Management system for a US insurance brokerage

How UniTrust has scaled policy, agent, and commission management since 2022: from a system launched in two weeks to the migration to Next.js on Azure.

Before: Founders breaking away from their previous IMO, with two weeks to get a system live before the operation stalled.

After: An ecosystem covering the agent's full lifecycle: licensing, leads, scheduling, policies, and recruiting.

Result: A unified operation for over 8,000 users, now migrating to Next.js on Azure with Yowpi on the team.

The Challenge

In August 2022, Peter Beckman and Brandon Hall broke away from the IMO (Insurance Marketing Organization) where they worked as agents to found their own: UniTrust. They already had an agent organization in place, and a brutal deadline: two weeks to get a system live before the operation stalled.

The US insurance market is heavily regulated: every agent needs licensing in each state where they acquire clients, and IMOs sit between the insurance carriers and the insured. Managing thousands of independent agents, each with different compensation rates and policy rules, consumes dozens of administrative hours per week when there is no system.

The Turning Point

Yowpi was hired on day zero, and the first system went live within the deadline. From that base, UniTrust needed an operational ecosystem that would:

  • Manage the full lead and policy lifecycle in real time
  • Automate the complex calculation of agent commissions and compensation
  • Cover recruiting and training too, so agent organizations could grow inside the platform
The Solution

On top of the foundation built in those first two weeks, the platform evolved into a complete ERP on no-code (Bubble Enterprise plan), developed by Yowpi alongside UniTrust's internal team. Today it covers the agent's entire lifecycle: onboarding, licensing, lead purchasing, scheduling, policy sales, and recruiting.

What the platform covers:

  • Automated Commission Module
→ Complex business rules translated into robust algorithms that calculate commissions instantly for every paid policy.

  • Integrated lead purchasing
→ Sales and recruiting leads bought inside the platform and distributed to agents.

  • Proprietary round-robin scheduling
→ Appointments integrated with Google Calendar, with automatic distribution across sales and recruiting funnels.

  • Recruiting and training
→ Recruiting funnels for agents to grow their organizations, an e-learning platform, and daily live trainings.

  • Agent Portal
→ Individual access to track goals, commissions, scheduled meetings, and client records.

The Impact

The system reshaped UniTrust's operational speed and security. Yowpi has operated as part of the company's technology team since day one.

Results:

  • Over 8,000 active users operating on the platform daily.
  • Drastic reduction in administrative work through full financial automation.
  • Four years of continuous evolution. A redesign in 2023, the Bubble Enterprise plan, and since 2025 the migration off Bubble: the system outgrew the platform it was born on and is now headed to Next.js on Microsoft Azure, in a transition led by UniTrust's CTO with Yowpi as part of the team.

What was at risk

Without the system on deadline:

  • The operation the founders brought from their previous IMO would stall in the transition.
  • Manual commission calculations would generate financial inconsistencies and dissatisfaction among partner agents.

Does this scenario sound familiar?

If your operation today:

  • Deals with complex calculations in spreadsheets that tend to break.
  • Has distributed teams without an integrated work tool.
  • Runs on a no-code platform that has started limiting the operation.
